Gallery: Large family bathroom with green furniture and eclectic tiles
The owners of this home in Lincolnshire wanted to create a contemporary bathroom scheme but were conscious not to neglect the Victorian heritage of the property. The original bathroom was tired, dated and in need of a complete overhaul in order to create the calm space the client’s wanted to achieve.
Working with a large footprint, the clients were keen to zone the space, creating distinct areas for the shower, basin and WC, whilst also leaving room to incorporate a statement bath. Building out a half-height stud-wall in the shower area helped to create a more discreet, private showering space, whilst also having the practical benefit of containing water splashes. Sectioning-off this space also helped create more of a feature of the basin and bath areas. As big fans of colour, the clients wanted green to be the statement colour for these items, as a means of adding plenty of personality to the room whilst also creating the perfect backdrop for displaying their much-loved houseplants. Opting for Farrow & Ball’s ‘Breakfast Room Green’, the clients chose to paint the bath and vanity units to match, and pair both with brushed black brassware to create a dramatic contrast.
Another way the large space was zoned was through the clever use of tiles. Metro tiles were laid in a chevron pattern behind the vanity unit, to further draw the eye to the space. Storage was incorparated in a niche underneath the mirror on this wall, where a contrasting feature tile was chosen to add interest. That same tile was also used in the shower niche and in the centre of the floor to create a rug-effect which softens the expsanse of plain floor tiles around it.
