Charity
At Ripples, we’re proud supporters of The Cycle, a charity which encourages and implements a cycle of empowerment in three key areas – Water, Women and World. Education is at the core of The Cycle’s work and their award-winning Happy Periods programme educates girls, boys, women and men in menstrual, sexual and reproductive health literacy in schools and communities where taboos still suppress people with periods.
Right now, 500 million women and girls don't have the things they need to manage their periods safely nor the understanding to free them from embarrassment. In India alone, research has shown that as many as 1 in 5 girls leave school when they start their periods due to lack of toilets and taboos, perpetuating gender inequality and poverty.
The Happy Periods programme costs just £25 per person; £12.50 for training and £12.50 for the delivery of a new washable, reusable, antimicrobial hygiene pad that is made from recycled bottles and lasts five years. For as little as £25, you can help to keep a girl in school for her senior years, as well as help shift community mindsets and create a safe environment where all genders can thrive.
We’ve been supporting The Cycle for over a decade, by raising awareness and funds to support those less fortunate than us in the UK. We do so by coordinating a number of fundraising events each year, with the money raised being invested into life-saving projects which have a positive and profound impact on the lives of village communities.
In 2013, we organised our first charity cycle to ride from London to Paris, a fundraising event so successful we repeated it in 2015, 2018 and again in 2023. We’ve also held raffles, showroom fashion shows, local mountain bike challenges, hiked mountains and made donations for every WC sold in our showrooms.
Over the past 10 years, the Ripples team has raised over £85,000 for The Cycle and we aim to increase this total over the coming years.
