Ripples radar: Trend insights from Decorex 2024

Last week, our designers headed to London to visit Europe's biggest interior design show, Decorex, to discover the latest products and design concepts set to influence the industry in 2025. Here, we highlight some of the biggest trends which are about to take the interior design world by storm.

1 | Mirrors as design tools

Using mirrors strategically became a hot topic. They are crucial components of modern interiors because of their ability to magnify light and give the impression of larger spaces.

2

| Colour drenching

Colour drenching is a prominent subject that involves filling an area with one colour to create a unified and captivating feel. This trend helps make a space more visually appealing and can have a cocooning effect, especially within bathrooms. Bright pastels were introduced as a fresh take on traditional pastel colours, offering warmth and vitality.

There was also plenty of examples of the colour of the moment, burgundy, but used in interesting ways, such as combining it with warm terracottas and cornflower blues.

3 | Natural light and spatial design

Enhancing ceiling designs and making the most of natural light were key themes at this year’s show. We saw a real trend for decorative and painted ceilings which can help make even the smallest spaces feel simultaneously cosy and roomy.

4 | Storytelling through design

Interior design is starting to place more and more emphasis on the art of storytelling. Rooms can become more personalised and meaningful by concentrating on injecting your personality rather than relying on neutrals. There was plenty of pattern displayed at Decorex, particularly whimsical prints which add an element of fun and playfulness to a design and showcase your personality

5 | Emphasis on sustainability

With many exhibitors displaying eco-friendly materials and products, there was a significant emphasis on sustainable products for the home. The need for sustainable interior design is driving designers to prioritise products that have a minimal impact on the environment, such as Kast who focuses on waste reduction and low energy materials and Tamasine Osher, who won the Sustainable Innovation award for its GRAIN lamps, crafted from waste timber of storm-felled Ash trees. These lamps highlight sustainable craftsmanship, utilising local, responsibly sourced materials.

6 | Biophilic design

Natural materials, organic shapes, and indoor plants were prominent features of many of the stands at Decorex. The goal of this movement is to promote well-being and a relationship with nature and this is specifically important within a bathroom space. The ‘bobbin’ shape was particularly prominent, appearing on everything from lamp stands to table legs. This use of rounded, organic shape was an interesting deviation from the geometric lines seen in interiors over the last few years

7 | Focus on wellness

There was no shortage of designs that emphasised comfort, relaxation and cosy environments to encourage both mental and physical well-being.

Final thoughts…

Decorex 2024 created an exciting groundwork for interior design by showcasing a variety of cutting-edge concepts and styles that meet the changing needs of both homeowners and designers. The focus on sustainability, harmonious colour palettes and natural light indicated a major movement towards designing spaces that are both aesthetically beautiful and environmentally conscious.

With the right tools, designers will be moving into 2025 creating environments that are both aesthetically captivating and emotionally impactful.
