Gallery: Contemporary cloakroom with concrete basin and wooden veneer panelling

The owners of this home in Southampton wanted to create a statement cloakroom with a cool and contemporary aesthetic. With a modern style in mind, our designer got to work creating a space with equal amounts of style and practicality.

Looking for the ‘wow’ factor, the homeowners were keen to explore a mixture of prints, colours and textures in their cloakroom. To create a focal point within the room, the designer chose a blush pink concrete basin with a unique fluted design which creates real impact. They then paired this with a minimalist basin mixer in brushed brass gold which complements the warmth of the basin and creates a sleek, modern look.

The brushed brass colour was replicated with the mirror frame which also features an in-built light which helps illuminate this naturally dark space. That brass tone was also replicated within the wall niche, tying the whole scheme together and creating an additional light source through the use of LED strips.

On the walls, the client opted for a simple white metro tile to sit as a neutral backdrop behind the basin and this colour was replicated on the adjacent wall using white paint. To balance out the starkness of the neutral colours, the client chose a bold black wallpaper with a whimsical jellyfish design to cover the opposite wall, creating interest on a wall with minimal product.

Warmth was brought into the space by the introduction of wooden veneer panelling. Used on the remaining wall and the vanity unit, this material adds an interesting texture to the design and introduces a subtle woodgrain pattern which works well in contrast with the sleek modern materials used elsewhere.
