Designer advice: 5 water-saving products for your bathroom

Here, Senior Designer Kerri Asker from Ripples Winchester shares her pick of products to save water in your bathroom.

1.Conscious shower

Taking a shower is one of the most important rituals of the day but we shouldn’t have to compromise the environment in order to enjoy it. This ‘conscious shower’ is a meticulously designed product which ensures a pleasurable showering experience whilst also minimising water consumption. Blending a powerful water spray with a low flow rate, this shower envelops the body using as little as 6 litres of water per minute - that’s half the water used by a typical shower.

Not only does this shower do good, it looks good too. Available in rectangular or round overhead options, the ‘conscious shower’ has a refined, minimalist design and comes in a range of special finishes including matt black, brushed bronze and polished red gold.

2.Eco bath mixer

Using the latest industry-leading technology, this eco bath mixer blends water with air droplets to create a water-saving solution which doesn’t compromise on performance. By incorporating air in with the water, the flow rate is reduced (to just 4 litres per minute) and you also benefit from a soft and soothing effect as the water hits your skin.

3.Water-saving tap

We can all do our bit to help reduce water consumption and this tap is a great place to start. By using water-saving aerators, this tap offers a reduction in water and energy consumption of around 30%. It is also equipped with cold-start functionality which prevents unwanted hot water consumption since only cold water is supplied when the lever is in the central position.

4.Dual flush-plate

A very simple fix to reduce water usage is to change a single flush plate to a dual, modern flush-plate. This striking flush-plate is available in a range of stylish finishes and offers a ‘light’ flush option which reduces water usage without compromising on functionality. When combined with a smart cistern with dual flush technology, you can reduce flush-related water consumption by half.

5.Tin boat bath

Baths are one of the biggest users of water within the home but if a bath is a must-have then this tin boat bath is a great option. Available in either a 1700mm length or smaller 1500mm length, it doesn’t have a pre-drilled overflow, allowing you to decide how much water the bath retains. As it’s made of tin, it’s also an excellent heat conductor which will maintain the water temperature much longer than case iron versions, meaning you won’t have to top-up with more hot water during a long soak.
