Case study: Elegant ensuite with a pared-back aesthetic
This simple and spacious ensuite features luxury fixtures and fittings, creating a beautifully timeless scheme.
The layout
The owners of this ensuite wanted to make the most of the generously sized room by creating distinct areas for washing and getting ready. Due to the space available, Senior Designer Dena was able to play with proportions, allocating plenty of space for the bath, shower and vanity areas and choosing impactful products to stop the space from feeling too stark.
Feature wall
A freestanding bath was at the top of the client’s wishlist and this was positioned underneath the window to make the most of the natural light and to create an interesting vista to the view outside. As this area became the focal point in the room, a bold patterned tile was chosen to create a feature wall and draw the eye towards it. An in-built shelf was incorporated within the design, offering a place to store bathroom products and eliminating the need for a bath caddy or stool which may clutter the space. The bath area was then finished with beautifully-made chrome brassware, including a floor-standing bath mixer and separate hand-shower in a traditional style.
“I love the quiet simplicity of this ensuite. Each area is given its own space to sing and the neutral palette really draws attention to the quality of the individual products.”
-Dena, Senior Designer
Spacious shower
On the opposite side of the room, Dena designed a luxurious built-in shower enclosure. By building a wall within the room, Dena was able to zone the space, creating a distinct shower area and stopping the room from feeling too cavernous. The partition wall also offers the added benefit of privacy, as well as a handy place for the towel radiator which is perfectly positioned to store warm towels, ready for when you step out of the shower. The large chrome shower head provides a sumptuous showering experience whilst the in-built wall niche reduces clutter on the shower tray.
Vanity area
Another show-stopping product within the ensuite is the large vanity unit which offers plenty of storage and enough surface space for his and hers basins. Matching illuminating mirrors not only provide a practical place to get ready but offer a secondary layer of lighting, perfect for setting a relaxing atmosphere in the evenings. Traditional-style chrome taps were chosen to compliment the shower and bath mixer and a Corian worktop offers a hardwearing surface and subtle introduction of texture and pattern.
Finishing touches
The room is brought together by the subtle finishing touches, such as the Zellige-style metro tiles in the shower area and the lightly patterned floor tiles. The soft curves of the wall-hung WC compliment the oval mirrors and undulating bath and the neutral colour scheme used throughout creates an instant feeling of calm.
