Gallery: Dramatic bathroom with marble-effect tiles and wooden panelling
This bathroom embraces a dark and moody scheme which makes a big impact. Experimenting with dark marble-effect tiles, copper brassware and plenty of wood, our designer was able to create a cocooning space with plenty of drama.
The focal point within this room is the vanity area with its statement oval mirrors instantly drawing the eye in. Behind the mirrors, our designer incorporated a beautiful marble-effect tile which introduces a subtle pattern to the bathroom. The colours found within these tiles were then used throughout the rest of the room, creating an earthy scheme featuring hues of grey, brown and copper. The brown theme is continued with the large vanity unit which features a deep walnut tone and fluted finish. Matching semi-recessed basins were positioned on to the vanity unit, with the whole area completed with copper brassware.
With lots of dark colours to contend with, lighting was an extremely important part of this design. Multiple lighting sources were incorporated, to ensure enough practical and atmospheric lighting was available. The lighting elements include backlit mirrors, downlighters and dimmable hanging pendants. A window at the far end of the room introduces enough natural light to lift the room but not overpower the dramatic atmosphere created.
Storage was cleverly incorporated in this room, both behind the slatted panelling and within the large wooden cupboards. Opting for black cupboard doors helps this area blend into the marble-effect wall tiles, creating the illusion of a larger space. At the opposite end of the room, a large walk-in shower area was created, complete with copper fixtures and fittings to complement the basin brassware. The shower area features an in-built seating area, offering the perfect place to store bathroom products or take a moment to enjoy the steam from the shower.
The final bold element in the room is the black WC which is an unusual product which adds interest to the space. The WC blends well into the dark wall tiles, creating the illusion of space, even in an intentionally dark room.
