Ripples radar: 5 bathroom trends for summer 2023
From soft and subtle to bright and bold, our designers share the top bathroom trends they’re loving this season.
1 | Think pink
In celebration of the brand-new live action film, Barbie-inspired interiors have taken over. From subtle hints of pink to full-on dream house décor, this trend is all about having fun and adding vibrancy to your home. The cloakroom is a great place to embrace this trend as you can surprise and delight your guests with something unexpected. Why not try floor to ceiling tiles in a terracotta tone or perhaps make a statement with a magenta concrete basin? For an even more striking look, pair pale pinks with splashes of pastel tones such as duck-egg, powder blue or pale yellow but make sure to ground the rest of your scheme with plenty of neutrals. Alternatively, for a more pared-back look, opt for patterned tiles which introduce a pink hue or perhaps choose one pink element such as a blush-coloured bath and keep the rest of the space more minimalist. Accessories such as towels, candles and plant pots are also a great option for those wanting to try out the trend without investing in any permanent fixtures or fittings.
Style tip: Pink is a great colour for bathrooms as it evokes positivity making it the perfect shade to surround yourself with when kickstarting or ending your day.
3 | Au naturale
Drawing inspiration from the natural world is nothing new in bathroom design, but this season it's more prevalent than ever. Slatted wooden walls and panels are the biggest trend we’re seeing here, as wood, especially reclaimed, brings a tactile and textural element to a scheme. The use of recycled materials is becoming increasingly important, primarily for the environmental benefits but also as a way of adding character to a design.
Style tip: Use accessories with interesting textures to complete your ‘au naturale’ look, such as a wooden milking stool or a wicker basket to stow away loo roll. The addition of houseplants will make your nature-inspired scheme sing whilst also improving the quality of the air.
5 | Say it with stripes
Stripes are making a comeback but are no longer being used to create a nautical bathroom look. The stripe of today is cool and carefree...think candy canes, deck chairs and beach balls. Utilising stripes helps inject the feeling of summer which sparks joy all year round. We love experimenting with striped tiles, laying them in unusual formats to create added interest. Stripes can be softened by opting for pretty pastel tones such as baby pink, soft sage or powder blue.
